Lanarkshire Carers Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026 - Conversations with Carers

Lanarkshire Carers Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place yesterday on Wednesday 23 September 2026.

Full members in attendance at our AGM were welcomed by Samar Sheikh, Chairpersion and Lynn O'Hara, Vice-Chairperson at Lanarkshire Carers. Following the presentation of our formal agenda items, full members heard about the work of Lanarkshire Carers during the operational year from April 2025 to March 2026.

We were delighted to present the Annual Report for the operational year April 2025 to March 2026; 'Conversations with Carers', which celebrates the achievements, experiences, and voices of carers from across Lanarkshire.

The report provides an overview of our work throughout the year and demonstrates how, together with carers, we continue to develop services that make a positive difference to people's lives.

We celebrated the development of our full membership involvement and heard first-hand from some of our full members, Yasmine, Alison and Patricia, who shared their membership journeys, experiences and participation at Lanarkshire Carers.

From consultations and recruitment panels to celebrating 30 years of Lanarkshire Carers, Patricia shares how Full Membership has given her the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the organisation.

Our outcome-focused approach helps us build meaningful, person-centred relationships with carers, ensuring support is tailored to what matters most to them.
Developed with carers and continuously improved over the years, our Personal Outcomes Toolkit helps carers identify their goals, explore what is important in their lives and access the right support at the right time.

In 2026, we refreshed and republished the toolkit to reflect our learning and ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, outcome-focused support.

Following a suggestion made by a full member at our AGM in 2024, Lanarkshire Carers organised a visit to the Scottish Parliament, demonstrating how carers’ ideas can lead directly to meaningful opportunities and experiences.

Building on that success, we wanted to explore what other visits, activities and opportunities Full Members would value in the future. This year, that work became the focus of a successful 10-week student placement with Lanarkshire Carers. Working closely with carers, the student carried out research and gathered views to help shape future opportunities for Full Members.

The video below explores the conversations the student had with carers, and how their feedback helped influence future activities and experiences.

It is a great example of full membership in action, with carers sharing their ideas, influencing decisions and helping shape the future direction of Lanarkshire Carers. Watch the video to learn more about this exciting piece of work and the difference carers' voices continue to make.

Lanarkshire Carers works with and for carers to develop and deliver services that make a positive difference in their lives.
 
We are a well-established carer-led organisation formed in 1995 by local carers for local carers. The organisation has grown and developed extensively since that time and remains a member-led organisation, committed to ensuring carers have a voice that is heard, listened to, and effective. We value carers' experience and knowledge and support their involvement in our governance and in the design, development, and shaping of the services we provide. We also support carer voice, influence, participation, and representation locally and nationally.
 
Lanarkshire Carers is open to all adult carers who live in Lanarkshire (North and South). There are two membership options to choose from; affiliate member and full member. Both are free and provide full access to all our services. Carers can also change between the two membership options at any time if they wish to do so.
