Coping with Loneliness and Isolation

Coping with Loneliness and Isolation
In Person Course

Caring can sometimes feel lonely, even when we are rarely physically alone.

Changes to relationships, reduced opportunities to socialise, and feeling that others do not fully understand the caring role can all contribute to isolation. This supportive and interactive workshop will explore the different ways loneliness can affect carers’ mental health and wellbeing.

During this session you will consider what connection means to you, identify some of the barriers that can make reaching out difficult, and explore realistic ways to strengthen connection and support.

It will also include gentle reflection, practical strategies and opportunities to share experiences, with no pressure to disclose anything personal.

By the end of the session, you will:

  • Understand how the caring role can contribute to loneliness and social isolation.
  • Recognise some of the emotional, behavioural and physical effects of prolonged loneliness.
  • Explore barriers to connection, including limited time, exhaustion, anxiety and changes in relationships.
  • Identify realistic ways to build meaningful connection within the circumstances of their caring role.
  • Develop a personal plan containing one or two manageable actions to support their wellbeing.
