Handling School Meetings - For Carers of Children & Teens
In Person Course
Attending school meetings about your child or young person can often feel overwhelming. Sitting around a table with multiple professionals discussing your child’s needs, progress, or challenges can be daunting, and it’s natural to feel anxious, unsure of what to say, or worried about getting your point across. Many carers find it difficult to remember all the information shared or feel confident enough to speak up.
This supportive and informative session is designed to help carers feel more prepared, confident, and empowered when attending school meetings. Drawing on both professional insight and real-life parental experience, the session will offer practical advice and reassurance to help you navigate these situations more effectively.
During the session, you will:
Gain a better understanding of the purpose and structure of school meetings
Learn how to prepare in advance so you feel more confident and organised
Develop strategies for communicating clearly and making sure your voice is heard
Explore ways to keep track of key points, decisions, and next steps
Receive tips on managing anxiety and staying focused during discussions
Understand your rights and your child’s rights within the education system
There will also be time for discussion, allowing you to share your own experiences (if you feel comfortable) and learn from others facing similar situations. You’ll leave the session with practical tools, useful guidance, and increased confidence to help you get the best possible outcomes for your child or young person.
This session provides a safe, understanding, and non-judgemental space where carers are supported, informed, and empowered.
At Lanarkshire Carers, we try our very best to ensure that carers get access to as much information and training opportunities as possible to help them in their caring role. We provide free of charge training courses to ensure that no carer will ever be unable to attend due to financial reasons. However, there is a cost to us and for some courses, it can be considerable.
We understand that as carers, something can arise which would prevent you from attending a pre-registered course. If you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible. Many of these courses have a waiting list and unless we know, we are unable to offer your place to someone else.
