This informative session provides a clear and accessible introduction to neurodiversity, helping carers develop a broader understanding of how people think, learn, and experience the world in different ways. It is designed to build awareness, promote inclusion, and offer practical strategies for supporting neurodivergent individuals in everyday life.
The session will explore the concept of neurodiversity, recognising that neurological differences such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other conditions are a natural variation of the human population. By gaining a deeper understanding, carers can feel more confident in providing the right support and creating more inclusive and supportive environments.
Participants will be guided through key principles of neurodiversity, with a focus on understanding strengths as well as challenges. The session will also highlight how individual needs can vary and why personalised approaches are important.
During the session, participants will:
·Develop a wider understanding of neurodivergence and what it means in everyday life
·Explore how neurodivergence can affect communication, behaviour, and sensory experiences
·Learn practical ideas and strategies for supporting neurodivergent children and adults
·Gain insight into creating supportive, understanding, and inclusive environments
·Explore sources of support, resources, and services available to carers and families
The session is delivered in a supportive and accessible way, with opportunities for reflection and discussion. It aims to help carers feel more informed, confident, and equipped to respond to the needs of those they support.
By the end of the session, participants will have a stronger understanding of neurodiversity, practical tools to apply in their caring role, and greater awareness of where to seek further support and guidance.

Notes
At Lanarkshire Carers, we try our very best to ensure that carers get access to as much information and training opportunities as possible to help them in their caring role. We provide free of charge training courses to ensure that no carer will ever be unable to attend due to financial reasons. However, there is a cost to us and for some courses, it can be considerable.
We understand that as carers, something can arise which would prevent you from attending a pre-registered course. If you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible. Many of these courses have a waiting list and unless we know, we are unable to offer your place to someone else.
