Sexual Health Sessions (For Parent Carers of Children & Teens with Additional Support Needs (4 Week Course)

Session 1 - Introduction to Puberty

A gentle introduction to sexual health, this relaxed, informal session focuses on the importance of acknowledging a child/young person’s sexuality as part of their identity, as well as helping to protect them against vulnerabilities. 
Topics include:
•    Importance of the subject
•    Human rights and vulnerabilities
•    The natural progression of sexuality
•    Discussing key topics that might come up, with some practical tips.
•    Open and honest Q&A
•    Information from session sent to parents by email

Session 2 - Gender and Sexuality

Sex, gender and sexuality: supporting LGBTQ+ young people with additional support needs (including autism)
Topics include:
•    The history of sexuality and disability.
•    The diversity of the LGBTQ+ community
•    The difference between sex, gender, gender expression and attraction.
•    The relationship between gender and autism.
•    Practical tools on how to explore LGBTQ+ with pupils.
•    Useful local resources

Session 3 - Public and Private Places and Spaces

Session 4 - The Birds and the Bees and the Internet: Navigating Relationships Online
