Supporting ADHD: Practical Strategies for Carers of Children and Young People

Supporting ADHD: Practical Strategies for Carers of Children and Young People
In Person Course

This session will give carers of children and young people a grounded understanding of ADHD and how to support the young people in their care.

We'll start by exploring ADHD and finding out more about this condition. The different ways it can present (inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive, or combined), and where it sits within the wider neurodivergent umbrella.

From there, we'll tackle common myths head-on, addressing misconceptions such as ADHD being "just poor discipline". We will also explore Rejection Sensitivity (or Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria) what it is, how it shows up emotionally and behaviourally in children and young people, and why it's so often missed.

The session will then move into practical territory: actionable strategies for supporting ADHD children and young people, covering both environmental adjustments and communication approaches that reduce shame and improve understanding. Carers will leave with concrete steps they can implement immediately.

Finally, we'll cover the policy landscape, equipping carers with the frameworks and language needed to advocate effectively when within education and other services.
