Training Opportunities

Lanarkshire Carers training programme covers a range of topics to help carers feel confident in their caring role and look after their own health and wellbeing. When someone’s caring role is new, our Steps of Caring Programme provides useful information and helpful contacts. Our training programme provides a range of condition specific sessions and topics that address issues identified by carers throughout the caring journey. When a caring role changes or ends our Moving Forward from Caring Programme supports carers to deal with loss and change and move on to services better placed to meet their needs.

The courses we deliver are listed below. You can also sign up to our mailing list and we will contact you when further training opportunities become available.

At Lanarkshire Carers, we try our very best to ensure that carers get access to as much information and training opportunities as possible to help them in their caring role.

We provide free of charge training courses to ensure that no carer will ever be unable to attend due to financial reasons. However, there is a cost to us and for some courses it can be considerable. We understand that as carers, something can arise which would prevent you from attending a pre-registered course.

If you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible. Many of these courses have a waiting list and unless we know, we are unable to offer your place to someone else.

Session 1 - Happy 2021!

2020 was a difficult year for most, so it’s important that we don’t start 2021 dejected and down. Join Martin for a refresher of Mindfulness and see how you can use the simple tools to make the most of all 2021 has to offer.

Session 2 - Feeling overwhelmed by life?

Join Martin Stepek, for a hot drink and some uplifting mindfulness. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by life or a wee bit down, bringing mindfulness to simple everyday activities, such as drinking a cup of tea, can be a great way to build moments of mindfulness into busy day. Martin will expertly guide you in using your hot drink for a relaxing and enriching meditation. He will also show you how practicing mindfulness will help you let go of negative thoughts, feelings and emotions, and enjoy life.

Session 3 - Be Still

If your circumstances are turbulent or stressful, it’s difficult to imagine how being still in the midst of this is possible, or can help. Martin will show you how being still for short periods throughout your day can help bring peace of mind.

Session 4 - Mindfulness and Nature

Make the most of the spring! Getting outdoors can really boost your mood. Martin will look at different ways of being mindful outdoors including mindful walking or taking time to sit in your garden or a local park to just notice. He’ll show you how this simple exercise can really boost your sense of well-being and happiness.

Session 5 - The Power of your Breath

Everyone breathes, right? It may seem odd to focus on something that comes so naturally to us all, but Martin will show you why practicing being aware of your breath has such a huge impact on our mental and emotional wellbeing. It’s so simple, but it really works!

Session 6 - Are you your Biggest Critic?

We’re often harder on ourselves than anyone else, picking faults and raking over past mistakes. Mindfulness can help boost your self-esteem. Martin will show you how regular practice helps us to let go of being critical and judgmental about ourselves and ultimately be happier with who we are.

Please note: A Smart phone/tablet/laptop and a stable internet connection is required to take part in the sessions. You will receive an email on the day of the session with details of how to access it.
